LANG Electronics Inc. proudly presents P.LANE Type 436 a modern take on the much-lauded modded ALTEC 436C all-tube vari-mu compressor
LANG P.LANE Type 436 - Featured

MADRID, SPAIN: Heritage Audio® brand LANG Electronics Inc., itself a notable name in pro audio circles dating back to the Sixties, is proud to present the P.LANE Type 436 ALL TUBE VARIMU COMPRESSOR as a modern 2U take on yesteryear’s much-lauded modded ALTEC 436C that proved foundational for creating the fresh and furious British Invasion sound that conquered the world in the Sixties — still making musical waves today due to its velvety, flattering character and sublime ability to control dynamics without killing the high-end — and now available (at a price that would have been hard to believe back in the day), as of May 22…

One of the most mysterious vari-mu compressors of all time, the much-lauded modded ALTEC 436C was used on a daily basis in the hottest studio throughout the Swinging Sixties when tracking brass, guitar, Mellotron, piano, sitar, strings, and woodwind for a certain world-conquering fabulous foursome from Liverpool. Indeed, it set a gold standard for modern instrument recording right up to the present day.

It is fair to say, though, that this distinguished design is far from being a fable from the Sixties since its simple yet flexible features have proven to be the secret sauce for many contemporary professional producers in almost all musical genres — from pop to rock, alternative, metal, hip-hop, and even EDM (Electronic Dance Music) — due to its unique character when tracking any instrument type.

LANG P.LANE Type 436 - Front

That all being said, no effort was spared when it came to designing P.LANE Type 436. After all, it encompasses all development stages of the original — from the somewhat simple yet extremely effective model 436C to the more evolved ’London Mod’, with six selectable constants and HOLD positions for each constant keeping the source signal compressed to the most recently processed peak level. LANG Electronics Inc. also took things one step further to include a so-called SuperFast (S.F.) setting — not found on the vintage 436C — that takes the unique character of P. LANE Type 436 to a whole new level, adapting it to the modern needs of studio recording. Realizing that design also involved including three tubes — namely, a NOS 6H5P, a JJ E88CC, and a NOS 6AL5 — to match the original, all working in perfect harmony with custom-made input and output LANG Electronics Inc. transformers designed by Heritage Audio®. ATTACK (selectable, stepped — six settings) and RECOVERY (selectable, stepped — six settings, plus HOLD) controls are key to its working like magic to track any instrument, while its 2U steel rack-mount chassis also comfortably accommodates an INPUT and OUTPUT on (custom-wound) transformer-balanced XLR and TRS connections. And a worldwide internal power supply sees P.LANE Type 436 setting out its stall as an ALL TUBE VARIMU COMPRESSOR that is musically match fit for today.

LANG P.LANE Type 436 - Rear

Thanks to the tenacity of LANG Electronics Inc., one of the most mysterious vari-mu compressors of all time is now available in a convenient 2U rack-mount form… and at an attractive price point that would have been hard to believe back in the Sixties, so self-respecting studio owners or self-recording artists alike can comfortably justify adding at least one P.LANE Type 436 ALL TUBE VARIMU COMPRESSOR to their recording setup, surely. And as LANG Electronics Inc. are collectively keen on saying — or even singing, surely influenced by those four fabulous Liverpudlians: “P.LANE is in your ears, in your eyes… and in your wallet!” All together now. Everybody.
