The oneTHNG series debuts October 10, marking a new era for Modbap and six years of independent innovation and instrument design
Los Angeles, CA, October 10, 2026 – Modbap is proud to announce oneTHNG™: Fidelity Theory, the independent music technology company’s first software plug-in and the first release in its new oneTHNG series, a line of highly focused, single-purpose plug-ins. Each one takes a core processing function and turns it into a single control, with intentionally selective switches which introduce additional sonic options. Launching on Modbap’s sixth anniversary, Fidelity Theory will be free through Modbap’s own channels for its first 72 hours. After the drop, Fidelity Theory carries an intro price of $29.99 for the rest of October (regular price of $39.99), with dealer availability beginning October 13.
Fidelity Theory is a character effect that treats fidelity as a creative coordinate rather than a simple measure of better or worse. A single control links sample rate and bit depth in opposite directions, inviting musicians and producers to move between bright, coarse digital texture and dark, narrow bandwidth without breaking their creative flow. Available in VST3, and AU formats for macOS and Windows, it brings the hands-on thinking behind Modbap’s Eurorack instruments into the DAW while the hardware line continues.
“For six years, Modbap has been about making instruments that feel immediate, musical and open to discovery,” said Corry Banks, founder of Modbap. “Fidelity Theory takes that same idea into software. Instead of giving you a page of technical choices, it turns a relationship between sample rate and bit depth into one playable gesture. The sound can be subtle, worn, bright, dark or completely broken, but the way you get there stays simple.”
One Control Many Shades of Fidelity
At the center of Fidelity Theory is the FIDELITY control, which moves sample rate and bit depth together along a single diagonal. Turn it left and bandwidth opens while the amplitude grid becomes coarser. Turn it right and bit depth becomes finer while bandwidth closes. The full sweep runs from 48 kHz at 6-bit to 6 kHz at 16-bit, with a live readout displaying the current coordinate. The plug-in opens at 32 kHz and 12-bit, a versatile starting point for exploring its range.

Two switches extend the palette without adding menus or a second page. COIL selects between IRON and WORN converter voicings. IRON adds a presence lift around 4 kHz and gentle drive that scales with the FIDELITY position. WORN emphasizes the low mids, softens the highs, and adds asymmetric saturation with a light layer of grain. Both voicings are gain-normalized so the change is in color rather than level.
RING activates an aliasing stage that drives and decimates the signal without an anti-alias filter, folding high-frequency content back into inharmonic metallic texture. Its fold point follows the sample rate generated by the FIDELITY control, allowing the effect to remain responsive throughout the sweep instead of appearing only at the extremes.
Designed for Movement
Fidelity Theory is built to be played in real time. Parameter changes are smoothed, switching is crossfaded, and output level is matched across the sweep so users can change character without a distracting jump in volume. The interface scales from 75 to 200 percent and includes 25 factory presets across five Factory preset categories, along with Locker, Favs and Drops (aftermarket preset packs) for organizing sounds.

Key Features
- A playable fidelity coordinate: one macro control links sample rate and bit depth across a range of 48 kHz and 6-bit to 6 kHz and 16-bit.
- Two converter voicings: choose IRON for presence and controlled drive or WORN for thicker low mids, softened highs, asymmetric saturation and grain.
- Responsive aliasing: RING creates inharmonic metallic texture with a fold point that tracks the active sample-rate coordinate.
- Clear visual feedback: a live readout shows the exact sample-rate and bit-depth pair at every control position.
- Performance-ready behavior: smoothed parameters, crossfaded switching and level matching make the plug-in safe to move during a take.
