Orchestral Tools Announces Beaufort – Vivid Scoring Brass

Evoke the bold, iconic themes of New Hollywood with a fanfare-focused brass collection

Berlin, Germany, June 20, 2024 — Orchestral Tools announces Beaufort: A new brass collection inspired by the punchy, heroic sounds of classic New Hollywood cinematic scores. Performed by some of England’s finest players, this collection of solo and ensemble brass instruments brings these expressive, emotive sounds into the musical toolkit of contemporary classical and film composers. Beaufort is available now for a special intro offer price of €349 (€499 + VAT regular price) until July 3, 2024. For more information and to purchase, please click here.

Precise, expressive, heroic
Beaufort’s sharp, punchy brass sound is designed specifically to evoke the memorable, heroic brass fanfares of some of the 20th century’s most celebrated movie themes. These confident and emotive sounds enable composers to evoke the New Hollywood style with ease, while offering enough depth and scope to be equally useful for many other musical tasks—anything where sharp, precise, fanfare-like brass is required. The collection blends seamlessly with other Orchestral Tools brass libraries, such as Berlin Brass or Tom Holkenborg’s Brass, and offers an essential complement to those collections.

Beaufort includes solo trumpet and French horn, an ensemble of three trumpets, an ensemble of four French horns, a three-trombone ensemble, plus a trombone and tuba ensemble for the low end. All solo and ensemble instruments were captured in multiple specialist articulations offering a choice of note onset/attack options. Other articulations provide short notes designed specifically for fast note repeats, including a patch for automatic two, three, and four-note repetitions. These specialist articulations, plus some very careful dynamics modeling, make Beaufort highly playable, and make it much easier to create lively and compelling mockups with a rich and highly realistic sound.

To record the collection, Orchestral Tools traveled to the UK and recorded at AIR Lyndhurst in London. This was no coincidence: British brass players have a unique bite and attack to their sound, and it’s this quality that Beaufort set out to capture. The players were very carefully selected and included James Fountain of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal College of Music on solo trumpet, and Richard Watkins on solo horn.

“All of us have been so heavily influenced by how composers like John Williams and Alan Silvestri relied on these bold, punchy brass sounds for some of the most iconic orchestral themes ever recorded,” said Orchestral Tools CEO Hendrik Schwarzer. “Beaufort brings that sound to the contemporary composer with a greater degree of detail, realism, and control than ever before. We’re very proud of this collection—it not only sounds great, it’s also a lot of fun to use.”

Heritage Audio i73® PRO family now available, first-ever USB-C, Class A 73-style preamps audio interface

Heritage Audio LogoMADRID, SPAIN: having kicked up an industry storm following a well-received introduction that whetted well-informed recordists’ appetites at the start of the year, European pro audio manufacturer Heritage Audio is proud to announce availability of its i73® PRO family offering varying I/O and features as the first-ever USB-C audio interfaces with built-in Class A 73-style preamps — proudly presenting i73® PRO ONE as a 2-in/4-out USB-C-based desktop design with an integrated 73-style preamp, i73® PRO 2 as a 2-in/4-out USB-C-based desktop design with dual integrated 73-style preamps, and i73® PRO EDGE as a 12-in/16-out USB-C-based desktop design (digitally expandable by up to eight channels over ADAT) with dual integrated 73-style preamps — making the full-analogue experience of the ‘Golden Era’ of recording not only available to everyone, everywhere, and anywhere but also available to buy, as of June 24…

Readily representing easy entry into its two-years-in-the-making i73® PRO family of USB-C audio interfaces with built-in Class A 73-style preamps, Heritage Audio’s i73® PRO ONE aims to provide musicians, producers, and audio engineers with an easy pathway to the cherished analogue experience that has inspired music creation since the early Seventies. Since i73® PRO ONE offers the same Class A transformer-balanced circuitry found in the European pro audio manufacturer’s classic 73-style preamps, users will not only be able to capture signals with all that classic mojo and vibe but — for the first time — also achieve that straight from the audio interface itself into their computer. And, as is the case with any of Heritage Audio’s 73-style preamps, a three-way input is implemented so routing whatever connection the signal may be on — whether users want to track vocals through that hearty mic preamp with up to 70dB of gain, an electric guitar or bass through the fast, dynamic JEFT DI or the clean line inputs — to the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with true studio quality is simplicity itself. Indeed, a low-latency monitoring mixing console has been developed from the ground up so users will always hear what they need to, either through the analogue stereo monitor output over TRS or stereo headphone output, each independently controlled by Heritage Audio’s mixer running inside the i73® PRO ONE itself. It is also possible to process tracks in real-time within that mixer with an ever-growing comprehensive set of tools modelled after Heritage Audio’s own outboard and private gear collection running internally over i73® PRO ONE’s DSP (Digital Signal Processor). Put it this way: it is possible to simultaneously record both dry and wet streams from Heritage Audio’s mixer to the DAW, and even insert third-party native plug-ins via said mixer’s aux channels! Class-leading AD/DA conversion, of course, comes naturally to i73® PRO ONE, with recording, mixing, and playback up to 24-bit/192kHz. Further features include +48V phantom power, PAD, and PHASE, plus MONO, MUTE, and DIM; USB-C computer connection (cable included), and MIDI (Mini-DIN in/out) connector, all housed in an attractive, classic European console-inspired desktop design.

It is worth noting here that all of the included plug-ins — namely, BritStrip (channel strip), HA 15 PRO (bass amp), Small Recording Amp Serial # C 17744, HA 1200 TapeSat, HA 240 Gold Foil Verb, and Heritage TAPEoPLEX, with a combined street value of up to €900.00 EUR/$900.00 USD — will also be made available to owners of any i73® PRO audio interface in native AAX/AU/VST3 formats, so once both streams are recorded into the DAW they can then use the dry track and easily recall the effect used with any of Heritage Audio’s plug-ins directly in the DAW during mixing.

Its increased footprint readily reflecting its increased I/O and features, i73® PRO 2 joins its smaller sibling as another 2-in/4-out USB-C audio interface but benefits from the inclusion of two Class A 73-style preamps with up to 70dB gain for true studio-quality recordings. It is worth noting here that each of those preamps include independent +48V phantom power, PAD, and PHASE controls together with independent microphone/line inputs on combo XLR jacks, whereas i73® PRO ONE offers an extra line input on 1/4” jack only. On the face of it, then, this differentiates the two USB-C audio interfaces in question as all other functionality is identical, so purchasers can choose whatever device best suits their needs.

Needless to say, i73® PRO EDGE effectively represents the pinnacle of that two-year technological journey from ‘make-believe’ to must-have as a 12-in/16-out USB-C audio interface with dual integrated 73-style preamps, although admittedly when viewed from above it appears to be identical to its i73® PRO 2 sibling… well, almost — almost being the operative word here, for a quick glance at i73® PRO EDGE’s feature-packed back panel is all it takes to convince anyone that this audio interface is truly worthy of taking its rightful place at the head of the i73® PRO family feature-packed production table. By benefitting from two extra line inputs; two analogue stereo monitor outputs over TRS independently controlled by Heritage Audio’s mixer running inside the i73® PRO EDGE itself (with one mix per stereo out); two independent stereo headphone outputs (with dedicated cue mixes controlled by Heritage Audio’s mixer); and last, but by no means least, up to eight channels of expandability over ADAT, the Heritage Audio Full Analog Experience — as highlighted on each i73® PRO family member’s top panel as a tasteful reminder — offered by the top-tier i73® PRO EDGE evidently takes some beating!

But whether opting for the easy-entry i73® PRO ONE or the top-tier i73® PRO EDGE, make no mistake: the full-analogue experience of the ‘Golden Era’ of recording is, indeed, available to everyone, everywhere, andHeritage Audio - i73 Pro Edge Logo anywhere, thanks to Heritage Audio’s introduction of its i73® PRO family as the first-ever USB-C audio interfaces with built-in Class A 73-style preamps! Paying money and making choices has surely never been easier.

i73® PRO ONE, i73® PRO 2, and i73® PRO EDGE are available to buy via Heritage Audio’s growing global network of dealers (https://heritageaudio.com/where-to-buy-international/) with an MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) in the EU of €649.00 EUR (including VAT), €999.00 EUR (including VAT), and €1,499.00 EUR (including VAT), respectively, and a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) of $649.00 USD, $999.00 USD, and $1,499.00 USD, respectively, US distribution being handled via RAD Distribution (https://raddist.com/en/brands/heritage-audio).

Abbey Road Orchestra Symphonic Strings combines all of the range’s string instruments into one plug-in: 1st Violins, 2nd Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses. It gives users access to a 60-piece string section consisting of the world’s premier musicians, all performing in the iconic Studio One at Abbey Road.

The new bundle, as well as each of the five individual instruments, are available in both Core and Professional tiers. Users have the option to purchase each of these virtual instruments individually or as a complete package of five instruments, even if users already own one instrument.

  • Abbey Road Orchestra - Symphonic Strings -3

All instruments in this range will be available in two tiers: Core and Professional. The Core version will consist of 82 articulations, including two multi-functional Legato patches, Long Flautando, Tremolo, Harmonics, Trills, Staccatissimo, Spiccato, Staccato, Marcato, Pizzicato and Col Legno.

The Professional tier includes all articulations featured in Core, along with additional articulations such as all extended legato techniques like Portamento and Detache in “Extended” legato patches, as well as separate legato techniques for keyswitching.

The Professional tier also consists of 16 signals (including two hand- crafted mixes by GRAMMY Award-winner Simon Rhodes).

The Abbey Road Orchestra Symphonic Strings release continues Spitfire Audio’s journey in placing the true sound of cinema under composers’ fingertips. Spitfire Audio is the first sampling company to have been granted unrestricted access to this iconic space; the apex of orchestral production.

CUTTING EDGE LEGATO TECHNOLOGY

All five instruments in Abbey Road Orchestra Symphonic String include Spitfire Audio’s most detailed and advanced legatos yet, developed using new methods, new charts, new performance directions, new programming techniques and development tools established in R&D sessions captured at Abbey Road.

Both tiers of the range share a new additional layer of legato intervals triggered by playing speed and velocity. This layer vastly improves playability and responsiveness of more mid to up-tempo lines.

UNRIVALLED ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Spitfire Audio has collaborated with the Abbey Road team – including GRAMMY Award- winner Simon Rhodes and London’s top orchestral musicians – to capture the most detailed and responsive virtual string library ever created.

The release will include meticulously recorded violas, basses and second violins. Music makers will have the choice of putting together their own collection of the new libraries piece by piece or acquiring the entire string section (including the recently released 1st Violins and Cellos) as a bundle.

As ever, the level of detail employed by Spitfire Audio for this collection has been second to none. The release was produced employing over 950,000 raw samples, performed during 285 hours of recording across 95 sessions and thousands of hours of inspired editing.

ABBEY ROAD RANGE

The highly anticipated Abbey Road Orchestra Symphonic Strings will sit alongside the rest of Spitfire Audio’s Abbey Road range as the next phase of this definitive orchestral library.

Composers and producers already have access to libraries such as Abbey Road Orchestra 1st Violins and Abbey Road Orchestra Cellos. The arrival of these three new stringed instruments will  see the completion of this virtual string collection, taking this meticulously crafted series to a whole new level.

Renowned for its high level of detail, the Abbey Road Orchestra series invites users to sample the most internationally acclaimed orchestral musicians performing in the legendary Studio One at Abbey Road Studios. The series already includes a set of meticulously curated percussion libraries, including High Percussion, Low Percussion, and Metal Percussion, performed by world-renowned percussionist Joby Burgess.

THE MOST ICONIC RECORDING STUDIO IN THE WORLD

Studio One has hosted some of the most pivotal, orchestral moments in cinematic and musical history. From John Williams’ score for Return of the Jedi to the genre melding and mould breaking Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

No other sampling company has been invited to Studio One for these purposes. Whilst the previously released Film Scoring Selections scratched the surface of what is possible, Abbey Road Orchestra Symphonic Strings offers the highest possible quality sounds for professional composers and industry leaders.

Spitfire Audio’s Co-Founder, Paul Thomson said

“We’re so fortunate to have been granted yet further access to this beautiful sounding space to capture this next collection of instruments. This series is the culmination of over 20 years of sampling experience and innovation. We’ve kept music makers in mind in creating something which prioritises creativity and ease of use, without sacrificing performance and nuance. We’re dedicated to sharing an incredible selection of curated instruments, delivered with the highest precision and immense detail, to take the standard of orchestral sampling to new heights. This is a long-term project and we are very excited to share more with composers over the coming years”.

Sally Davies, Managing Director of Abbey Road said,

“Through the Orchestra series, Spitfire Audio has managed to capture the magic of Studio One in unprecedented detail. They understand exactly what makes the studio the home for classical, film and game music production. As ever, the team has handled the process with due care and, more importantly, due passion”.

Mirek Stiles, Head of Audio Products at Abbey Road said,

“This has been a labour of love and it’s immensely satisfying to share the entire string section with music creators around the world. The sonic and musical pallets presented here are utterly engrossing and truly beautiful.

With the foundations of the percussion and strings laid down, both Spitfire and Abbey Road are excited to continue expanding on this remarkable presentation of the legendary Studio One sound in its full glory”.

SpectraLayers 11 Lifts Unmixing and Spectral Repair to a New Level

Spectral editing and AI-driven audio processing take a leap forward as Steinberg releases SpectraLayers 11, which brings new algorithms for enhanced unmixing, improved speech processing, and more powerful noise recognition capabilities.

Steinberg LogoHAMBURG, Germany — Steinberg has today announced the immediate availability of SpectraLayers 11, which features greater integration of AI and precision tools to significantly raise the bar of spectral audio editing for music, sound design, restoration, and repair. With more instrument categories for unmixing, much-improved voice recognition, enhanced editing, and workflow options which include process chaining, batch processing, an improved user interface and much more, SpectraLayers 11 lifts the industry standard for innovation, power, and convenience in spectral audio editing to a new level.

Breakthroughs in unmixing and spectral repair
New breakthroughs in unmixing include an Unmix Chorus module for separating lead and
background vocals on vocal-only layers as well as an Unmix Crowd Noise module for
splitting the sound of a live event into performance and crowd sounds. Also new are
enhanced Unmix Song AI for automated unmixing of up to seven discrete instruments, plus
improved results for unmixing stems, drums, multiple voices, and more.

Spectral Layers 11 - Unmixed Voices

Screenshot

The new AI-powered Voice DeClip algorithm has been trained on thousands of pairs of clipped and non-clipped voice recordings to deal with clipped speech quickly and effectively, while the improved Voice DeNoise module now includes a strong noise option to address excessively noisy speech content.

Enhanced workflows and user interface
The SpectraLayers 11 user interface has been redesigned to accommodate the ever-increasing number of available processes, which are now presented as Modules in their own dedicated panel to deliver a significant uptick in workflow speed and efficiency. Modules can be chained to add sophisticated multi-process configurations. Modules within chains can be programmed to operate on whole layers or layer selections, while processes can be diverted to other layers, repositioned in the chain and custom chain presets saved.

Spectral Layers 11 - Full Screen Panels

Screenshot

New batch processing allows files to be simply added or dragged into the batch process
dialog, export options chosen and then rendered as either a mixdown or as independent
layers. The enhanced user interface in SpectraLayers 11 includes a new home screen and Compact Panels view, which enlarges or reduces the horizontal spectrogram and waveform displays while controls remain accessible at all times. There are also improvements to the Display, Channels and History panels, as well as the Composite Layers, Downmix Channels
and Selected Layers views.

Spectral Layers 11 - Options MASTER

Screenshot

Introducing further editing and sound refinement tools
Multiple layers can be selected for editing and management, such as merge, duplicate, delete, group, and dragged directly into the Cubase and Nuendo Arrange windows in ARA mode. Layers can also be dragged directly to the desktop to quickly extract transcoded audio files.

A new configurable Transfer Brush tool non-destructively shifts content between source and
destination layers in real time, while the new Transient Pencil tool allows users to draw transients directly in the spectrogram. Damaged or missing transients can be reconstructed
by using this tool in conjunction with other SpectraLayers tools for creative sound design.

Spectral Layers 11 - Selection Fade Tool

And there’s more:
• Configurable Selection Fading and Sharpening brush tool, which works at selection
borders to sculpt and edit fades.
• Editing selection fades is now integrated within the selection process.
• New signal generator module, which merges the legacy tone, noise and silence
generators and adds a transients generator.
• Reverse the audio of any selection.
• Loop Preview facility for looping selections while working. Process chains can be
tweaked and saved while auditioning the component processes.
• Volume envelopes can be easily applied to Layers and Channels, with their graphs
appearing in the waveform display.

“We’re very excited how SpectraLayers has evolved over the past few years and are keen to reveal the latest additions in version 11,” says Marketing Manager Luis Dongo.

“SpectraLayers 11 delves now even deeper into harnessing the power of AI to further enhance productivity and efficiency. The results are outstanding, but you’ve got to see it for
yourself!”

Availability and pricing
SpectraLayers 11 is available through the Steinberg Online Shop. The suggested retail price

United Studio Technologies Bridges Classic and Modern with Vintage Direct

a vintage style LARGE TRANSFORMER Direct Box.

United Studio Tech - LogoBATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA, USA: United Studio Technologies is proud to introduce its Vintage Direct DI (Direct Injection) box — bridging the gap between old-school tape operators and modern recordists to deliver a massive sound from its massive transformer, all neatly packed into a road-worthy chassis that is as sturdy as it is portable — as of June 18…

Though typical DI circuits are simple, the best are dependent on great transformers. This is where Vintage Direct excels since its design is inspired by the earliest hand-wired DI boxes, such as the Wolfbox — the original passive DI box invented in the late Fifties by Dr. Edward Wolfrum, PhD, alumnus engineer of Motown, Golden World Records, Terra-Shirma Studios, Metro-Audio Capstan Roller Remote Recording, and United Sound Systems in Detroit, Michigan, USA — and American mix/recording engineer-cum-record producer Bruce Swedien’s Bass Box, both of which used massive early transformers made by Triad, UTC, and others.

UNITED - Vintage Direct - Front

It is perhaps unsurprising, therefore, that United Studio Technologies began by researching the UTC A12 transformer, first manufactured in the early Sixties. Several such transformers were measured to accurately reproduce their winding ratios, bobbin and magnet wire type, and lamination style. Subsequently, years were spent exploring many versions of that design, experimenting with different winding ratios and alloys before ultimately settling upon a high-nickel lamination and a winding ratio very close to those inspirational classics. As a result, United Studio Technologies’ US-made 5078 now ranks as one of the largest transformers that can be found in any DI, delivering a pristine low-noise signal, wide frequency response, extraordinary headroom, and outstanding noise rejection.

UNITED - Vintage Direct - Rear

Reality duly dictated United Studio Technologies’ settling upon the fact that nothing could come between the transformer and source that could rob tone or add noise. By being built into the transformer taps of its output, Vintage Direct’s level tailoring is far more tolerant of adjustment without affecting tone — unlike most passive DI boxes that use smaller, unshielded transformers reliant on resistor pad, volume pots, and RC (Resistor Capacitor) network filters before the signal hits the transformer. Three different secondary winding configurations are used in conjunction with a precision T-pad output attenuator for six evenly-spaced — -42, -38, -34, -30, -26, -22 — OUTPUT settings, while true ground isolation mitigates ground-loop hum while tracking.

Ultimately, United Studio Technologies succeeded in building a large, well-shielded transformer that can take any line- or instrument-level signal without risking overload. Far from inexpensive, it ensures pinnacle performance and the highest preservation of tone. That investment in quality extends to custom audio-grade resistors made in the USA for United Studio Technologies by PRP — a component provider for NASA, no less.

UNITED - Vintage Direct - Inside

It is fair to say that Vintage Direct is the most exceptional DI box built in decades, sporting an aluminum, road-worthy chassis that is as sturdy as it is portable — measuring 149mm/5.86” (W) x 155mm/6.1” (D) x 52mm/2” (H), while weighing in at .95kg/21 Ibs — so sure to survive turbulent touring yet still impress studio clientele upon safely returning home. Indeed, its recessed front and rear panel design provides protection from both studio accidents and on-stage flying kicks, while its screw-mounted removable feet allow for creative mounting options whenever needed.

Needless to say, 50-plus years of combined industry experience, many of which have been spent on the research and development of Vintage Direct, is reflected in its impressive — input impedance: 80 kΩ (unbalanced); output impedance: 50 – 250 Ω (balanced), depending on setting; frequency response: 20 Hz – 20 kHz, +/-0.5 dB; maximum recommended input levels: +10 dB or lower — specifications, while not forgetting, of course, its handy — phase inverse and GROUND LIFT — auxiliary controls. Is it any wonder, then, that United Studio Technologies collectively cannot wait to hear what users make of its latest creation.

Distributed worldwide by RAD Distribution (http://www.raddist.com/), Vintage Direct is expected to ship in late July 2024 with a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) of $399.00 USD and an SSP (Suggested Selling Price) of €529.00 EUR (including VAT).

Audified MIXCHECKER ULTRA - Featured

Audified announces availability of MixChecker ULTRA as ultimate evolution of mix reference tool, taking MixChecker PRO plug-in to higher heights

Audified New LogoBRNO, CZECH REPUBLIC: Audified is proud to announce availability of MixChecker ULTRA — ushering in a new era of the software application, software effect, and hardware processor developer’s development as the ultimate evolution of its ideally-monikered MixChecker mix reference concept (that had hitherto peaked with MixChecker PRO previously introduced as its unique plug-in flagship for quickly checking reference mixes without having to export them for listening on different speaker setups), now taken to even higher heights thanks to the inclusion of over 90 simulated high-end pro audio and commonplace consumer devices, an attractive new GUI (Graphical User Interface) styling, and time-saving analytical additions for measuring the most crucial mix parameters, practically, from within a single plug-in, plus more besides — as of June 12…

To truly appreciate the impact of Audified’s MixChecker mix reference concept, it is worth stepping back, briefly, in time to 2016 when the original MixChecker was introduced to widespread critical acclaim as a must-have mixing assistant plug-in that transforms studio monitors into classic reference monitors or one of several consumer devices to instantly improve mixes — no more time wasted exporting mixes to smartphones or burning CDs to listen in a car before going back into the studio to tweak the mix only to have to repeat the tiresome process time and again. Indeed, it remains available in its latest incarnation to this day through the likes of one-stop music production powerhouse LANDR (https://www.landr.com/plugins/audified-mixchecker), and includes 12 simulated devices that make it ideal for quick-reference mix-checking purposes. Put it this way, though: today Audified has truly taken the concept to another level entirely.

MIXCHECKER ULTRA - GUI

Enter, then, the wonderful world of MixChecker ULTRA, ultimately allowing its users to choose from 90-plus accurately measured simulations of up-to-date devices with instantly-recognizable icons and associated descriptions toMIXCHECKER ULTRA - Logo help with identification. It is, for instance, perfectly possible to try out the sound profile of industry-standard studio monitors and headphones; check how a mix translates to cars, club PA systems, or small Bluetooth speakers; or check mixes in noisy real-world environments, such as shopping malls, streets, subways, and more.

Supporting standard WAV IR (Impulse Response) files, MixChecker ULTRA also allows users to import an IR of any environment — be that a colleague’s studio, a popular acoustic space, or, possibly, even a cathedral — to hear how a mix translates to that imported environment, effectively.

Moreover, MixChecker ULTRA benefits from an attractive new GUI and improved UX (user experience) to quickly choose those simulated high-end pro audio and commonplace consumer devices and change their settings. Such settings are easily adjustable, allowing users to adjust the Volume of each device independently or set the simulated Stereo Base to better match real-world conditions. Audified’s audio engine also takes into account the non-linear behavior of the devices concerned and, as such, simulates their distortion and clipping characteristics; users can quickly turn on DIST to see if their mix would Dist (distort) or Clip the selected device.

Analysing any mix is essential to improving its quality, so it stands to reason that MixChecker ULTRA benefits from some serious yet seriously easy-to-use analytical metering tools available in a series of dedicated modules — namely, Gonio (analyses the stereo image of a track to show how balanced a mix is), Loudness (checks how loud a track is to show whether it is exceeding an adjustable threshold, and includes presets for the most popular streaming services that set thresholds to their levels to show whether a mix would fit their criteria), Dynamics (checks the dynamic range of a mix to show the difference between the loudest and quietest parts), Stereo (shows how occupied the frequencies of a mix are in the stereo field to identify whether some crucial frequencies are only present on one side of the spectrum), and Spectrum (provides a quick overview of which frequencies need to be focused on to improve a mix when compared to a reference track). All adds up to enabling users to quickly analyze their mix and make changes accordingly. (It is worth pointing out here that MixChecker ULTRA users can quickly import a reference track using its WAV- and MP3 format-supporting Player module that allows them to switch between sources in each module to compare their master track with a reference track, analyze the differences, and make further changes accordingly.)

And last, but by no means least, MixChecker ULTRA users can quickly save a combination of the 10 devices shown in the main window together with the selection and position of the analytical modules as presets.

Though the original MixChecker has been an integral part of Audified’s portfolio for years, selling over 15,000 copies worldwide — an impressive figure that was only bettered by MixChecker PRO that has, to date, sold over 20,000 copies since its introduction in 2018 (adding 50-plus new devices, additional features, savable presets, and more in the process of advancing anyone’s reference game), it is crystal clear that Audified has, indeed, taken its ideally-monikered mix reference concept to even higher heights in response to customer feedback with today’s timely introduction of MixChecker ULTRA, overhauling and improving everything about MixChecker PRO — and then some — to take big strides towards becoming the ultimate mastering suite while ushering in a new era of the software application, software effect, and hardware processor developer’s development.

MixChecker ULTRA is available to purchase for $149.00 USD from its dedicated webpage, which also includes some superb-sounding audio examples, here: https://audified.com/products/mixchecker-ultra/ (Owners of MixChecker PRO can upgrade to MixChecker ULTRA for an attractive price of only $39.00 USD.)

See and hear MixChecker ULTRA in action while watching Audified’s informative introductory video here:

Rob Papen - Unimagic Featured

Rob Papen announces availability of UniMagic as ‘minimalist’ multiple effect plug-in for vocals and instruments alike

Rob Papen LogoECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: Rob Papen Inspiration Soundware is proud to announce availability of UniMagic — unveiled as a low-cost yet high-quality ‘minimalist’ multiple effect plug-in for vocals and instruments alike, and also included in the latest version of the virtual instrument and effect plug-in developer’s all-encompassing eXplorer-9 bundle at no additional cost — as of June 6…

As a quick glance at UniMagic’s eye-catching GUI (Graphical User Interface) instantly indicates, Rob Papen’s latest effect plug-in’s controls are minimal, to say the least, leading casual onlookers to conceivably question what kind of effect plug-in it actually is. No need to worry about that, though, as anyone using it on vocalRob Papen Unimagic - Logo or instrument tracks can appreciate both its high-quality sound as well as reveling in the fact that it audibly thickens tracks. Try, for example, selecting a recorded vocal, then flicking through the 50 varied presets to thicken up or modernize the sound. Saying that, it also works well on harmony vocals — and instrument tracks, too. The self-explanatory AMOUNT control (determining how much of a selected effect is added to a track) is associated with an animated response to audio and effects to bring some enjoyable eye — as well as ear — candy to the production proceedings.

Rob Papen - Unimagic GUI

Put it this way: while flicking through UniMagic’s presets proves that effect plug-ins do not necessarily have to be packed full of overly-complicated features and functions in order to create a great sound, its so-called Ribbon controller allows users to finely adjust the sound by changing a pre-defined parameter within each preset type. It is, of course, perfectly possible to synchronized the sound to tempo by using the aforesaid controller’s SPRING BACK feature (with selectable time divisions). It is also worth perhaps pointing out here that MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) control is available in UniMagic.

Ultimately, enjoying all that UniMagic has to offer in terms of thickening up or modernizing sounds with minimal fuss far from breaks the bank. Better still, owners of eXplorer-9 only have to download the latest installer and run it to add UniMagic to their Rob Papen virtual instrument and effect plug-in collection — effectively for free!

UniMagic is available as a 64-bit AAX-, AU-, VST- and VST3-compatible virtual effect plug-in for Mac (OS X 10.13 or higher, M1/M2 ARM processor compatible) and as a 32- and 64-bit VST- and VST3-compatible virtual effect plug-in for PC (Windows 7 or higher) — with 64-bit AAX compatibility available for PT 12 or higher (PC) — priced at only €25.00 EUR/$25.00 USD from authorized Rob Papen resellers worldwide or as a download directly from Rob Papen itself for the same pricing from here: https://www.robpapen.com/UniMagic.html

UniMagic is included in the latest version of Rob Papen’s all-encompassing eXplorer-9 bundle (https://www.robpapen.com/explorer-9.html) at no additional cost, so existing owners only have to download the latest installer and run it to add UniMagic to their Rob Papen virtual instrument and effect plug-in collection.

About Rob Papen (www.robpapen.com)
Self-confessed synth freak and world-renowned sound designer Rob Papen started working with synthesizers at the tender age of 15 when purchasing an analogue Korg MS-20 semi-modular monosynth and accompanying analogue SQ-10 sequencer. Suitably inspired, he subsequently released several albums as part of Dutch electronic music groups Peru and Nova — the latter featuring the same members as Peru, but with a more commercial slant — with whom he enjoyed number one hit singles in The Netherlands (Nova) in 1982 and Austria (Peru) in 1988. Peru disbanded in 1993, by which time Rob had already established himself as a sought-after sound designer, creating presets for the likes of Waldorf, Access, Ensoniq, and E-mu, before going on to found his namesake company in pursuit of creating a sound designer’s dream synth. That software dream soon became reality when Rob formed the RPCX (Rob Papen ConcreteFX) partnership with music software developer Jon Ayres to develop new Rob Papen virtual instruments and effects plug-ins, starting with BLUE — an exciting-sounding, self-styled ‘Crossfusion Synthesis’ affair (combining FM, Phase Distortion, Wave Shaping, and Subtractive synthesis into one powerful dream synth) — in 2005. Today Rob Papen soundware defines cutting-edge contemporary music production: powerful virtual instruments and effect plug-ins that intermix innovative design, uncompromising sound quality, and musical, production-grade presets to make tracks truly shine, whatever the musical genre… Inspiration Soundware, indeed!

Knobula selects SUPERBOOTH24 to introduce Echo Cinematic as fully-featured, practical stereo effects Eurorack module inspired by influential dub culture

Knobula - logoLONDON, UK: electronic music innovator Knobula is proud to introduce Echo Cinematic as the latest Eurorack module to embody its no-screen, no-preset philosophy — presented as a fully-featured, practical stereo effects unit that draws its inspiration from the influential dub music culture that emerged from Jamaica and made its mark on the London music scene in the early Eighties — at SUPERBOOTH24, May 16-18, FEZ-Berlin, Germany…

Actively appreciating Echo Cinematic as a fully-featured, practical stereo effects Eurorack module — as alluded to by its front panel-positioned descriptive (Eq + Delay + Reverb) wording — that draws its inspiration from the influential dub music culture that emerged from Jamaica and made its mark on the London music scene in the early Eighties surely benefits from fleetingly digging deeper into what, technically, made that scene sound so unique. Ultimately, then, analogue tape delays were routinely connected to mixing consoles via a spare channel strip in those iconic recording setups, so engineers were able to manipulate the resultant sound using EQ and effects send controls to create ever-evolving rhythm textures from feedback loops delicately balanced on the brink of self-oscillation.

On the face of it, Echo Cinematic clearly eliminates the need for a complex mixing console; instead, it expands on those early-Eighties-developed dub music principals by beautifully integrating a versatile resonant filter with five distinct sources of automation. As such, Echo Cinematic consists of two independent LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) for both Eq and Delay modulation; looping 30-second Knob Record functionality, capable of simultaneously controlling every knob on the module’s clear-cut front panel; and two external CV (Control Voltage) inputs — CV A and CV B — for instant assignment to any control upon insertion of a patch cable.

Creatively, Echo Cinematic’s Eq section boasts three selectable filter types — namely, Shelf (high-/low-pass), PeakEcho Cinematic - Logo (peak/notch), and classic Comb; each can be patched into the Fback (feedback) loop (in so-called Dub Mode), Delay (output), or All (entire signal path), including the self-explanatory Dry or Effect signal. Simultaneous to that, the Delay section offers up to two seconds of stereo delay time, complete with Tap delay and grid Snapping functionality to ensure precise synchronisation with the beat or clock signal, while Reverb duties are handled by the same, lush-sounding 24-bit stereo processing found in Knobula’s other cinematic-sounding Eurorack modules — think: no screens, just big-screen sounds!

knobula - Echo Cinematic - Front

Says Knobula Technical Director Jason Mayo: “Before Knobula was founded, even, Echo Cinematic was intended to be our Eurorack debut. Duly envisioned as the ultimate dub-style echo module, its development was paused due to Poly Cinematic’s unexpected success; Echo Cinematic nonetheless now represents the culmination of a meticulous three-year developmental journey, the result of which has turned out to be even better than my original concept, so I’m immensely proud to finally introduce it to the Eurorack community.”

Anyone attending SUPERBOOTH24, May 16-18, FEZ-Berlin, Germany is invited to swing by Booth Z365 where Knobula is introducing Echo Cinematic as the latest Eurorack module to embody its no-screen, no-preset philosophy, proudly exhibiting and demonstrating it alongside its Poly Cinematic (8 Voice Polyphonic Synthesiser), Kickain (Kick Drum + Sidechain), Chord Pilot (Midi Chord Expander + Arpeggiator), and Pianophonic (Polyphonic Wavetable Synthesiser) siblings.

Set to ship in June 2024, Echo Cinematic will be available to purchase — priced at £320.00 GBP (including VAT)/€350.00 EUR (Net)/$399.00 USD (MRP) — through Knobula’s growing global network of dealers, as listed here: https://www.knobula.com/dealers

For more in-depth information, please visit the dedicated Echo Cinematic webpage here: https://www.knobula.com/products/echo-cinematic

About Knobula (www.knobula.com)
As an innovator in electronic music, Knobula blends decades of music production mastery with a passion for tactile engagement with the machine itself. It was founded by Jason Mayo, a respected record producer and synthesizer aficionado, and, as such, redefined the Eurorack experience with its flagship module, Poly Cinematic. Shunning screens and presets, the company champions a hands-on approach, with musical performance at the forefront of each and every design. Duly setting its sights on creating groundbreaking modules that shift the accepted boundaries of contemporary modular synthesis, a deeply rooted passion for polyphony, intuitive ease of operation, and tactile engagement are at the core of each and every product that lives and breathes by an admirable mantra: no screens, just big-screen sounds.

United Studio Technologies tenders Replay Box dual-transformer REAMPLIFICATION BOX with industry-proven best performance and options

United Studio Tech - LogoBATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA, USA: United Studio Technologies is proud to introduce its Replay Box — being brought into play as a dual-transformer REAMPLIFICATION BOX with industry-proven best performance and options, offering two unique sonic fingerprints and all the gain needed to raise the bar for all recordists — as of June 4…

As a dual-transformer REAMPLIFICATION BOX building upon two decades of experimentation and user feedback from early adopters of United Studio Technologies President Chad Kelly’s re-amplification boxes built by hand before the company’s creation, it is fair to say that Replay Box was effectively already industry-proven before its introduction since those early units became the secret sauce of top industry engineers the world over, their insights refining what is only now becoming commercially available to all.

As such, Replay Box’s ultra-quiet design and flexible tone voicing is anchored around two independent re-amplification circuits. The transparent circuit features United Studio Technologies’ custom-wound, US-made, 5043 step-up transformer; the associated TRANSPARENT mode provides extraordinary signal isolation and noise rejection for mastering-grade quality,United - Replay Box Logo while also accepting a balanced or unbalanced line level INPUT signal — 300 Ω impedance — to deliver an absolutely clean, isolated, unbalanced OUTPUT — 1 KΩ impedance — that is capable of driving any amp, pedal, or processor. Put it this way: with the transformer being wound to have passive gain, it has about 3dB of additional gain on tap above its already +4dB-rated input from a recorder or DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). With no active circuitry or other components involved, rest assured that users will get the cleanest gain possible on any re-amplification device currently available.

United - Replay Box Front

Alternatively, the harmonic circuit is for those that desire a little more coloration or fattening in the re-amp stage since switching into HARMONIC mode engages an alternate transformer specifically designed to add character. Indeed, its associated transformer is wound to offer a steeper gain ratio alongside a very gentle roll-off of the uppermost high frequencies, while also adding both harmonic and phase distortion in the sub-bass region, plus fattening the low mids to deliver a more aggressive and warmer tone. It is worth noting here that engaging HARMONIC mode changes Replay Box’s input impedance to 50 Ω and output impedance to 150 Ω, while its frequency response changes from 0 Hz-20 KHz +/-0.5dB (TRANSPARENT mode) to 40 Hz-20 KHz +/-0.5 dB.

Duly designed from the ground up, Replay Box solved the two most common problems found in re-amping — namely, noise and low gain. Any and all unwanted noise is usually re-amplified alongside the musical content when re-amping, so most re-amp boxes currently available add some degree of noise and coloration to the signal, making it harder to achieve a satisfying solution. It is also fair to say, though, that most re-amp boxes do not provide enough gain to drive an amp well, which means that engineers need to rely on boost or pre-amp pedals; in turn, this adds additional noise, distortion, and unwanted character. Crucially, then, the Replay Box design provides more gain than will ever be needed — and all without ever needing to add a noise-inducing pre-amp or boost pedal. Indeed, its true ground isolation further ensures that users will not be plagued by ground-loop hum while re-amping.

United - Replay Box Rear

But beyond its brilliantly engineered internal design, Replay Box also sports an aluminum chassis that is built not only for the rigors of the road, but for facing hard-to-impress studio clientele. Clearly, its recessed front and real panel design provides protection from both studio accidents and on-stage flying kicks, while its screw-mounted removable feet allow for creative mounting options whenever needed.

Needless to say, with over 50 years of combined experience, the principal players at United Studio Technologies have literally spent years researching and developing Replay Box to offer the two most respected boutique pre-amp products in a single enclosure. Engineers not already in the know need now take note that the bar has been beautifully raised for all.

Distributed worldwide by RAD Distribution (http://www.raddist.com/), Replay Box is expected to ship in late July 2024 with a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) of $399.00 USD and an SSP (Suggested Selling Price) of €529.00 EUR (including VAT).
