with user-requested features, new navigational tools and a faster workflow

January 11, 2024 – IK Multimedia releases TONEX™ 1.5, a major update to IK’s software based on powerful AI Machine Modeling™ technology that lets users model their own rig and play, practice and record with over 23,000 ultra-realistic Tone Models of amps and pedals already available on ToneNET.

This free update for all versions of TONEX is loaded with time-saving new features, many based on user feedback, to help browse and find the right tones faster and stay in the creative zone longer. It also includes 15 new Premium Tone Models for paid versions of TONEX (SE, Full and MAX).

TONEX 1.5 New Features

  • Improved Tone Model filtering and searching with a dedicated sidebar
  • User folders can now be created to organize Tone Models and presets
  • New Card view displays more Tone Models in a single window
  • Rescale and smart resize let users zoom-in or show more content
  • Amp and Cab section now streamlined to mix and match Tone Models
  • Deeper ToneNET integration for a seamless and expanded experience
  • New Collections section to demo and purchase Premium Tone Models
  • Librarian adds new filters for easy search and transfer to TONEX pedal
  • 15 new Premium Tone Models covering clean to high-gain amps

Intuitive Sidebar Navigation
TONEX 1.5 adds a comprehensive sidebar section with intuitive filters and folders, for quickly searching and organizing Tone Models and presets. Between “Tone Model” and “Preset” modes, the new sidebar streamlines the workflow by keeping all essential search functions accessible in one easy-to-navigate area.

Customizable User Folders
Organizing Tone Models and presets is easier in TONEX 1.5 with the addition of custom user folders. Users can organize and create as many folders as they like, and manage Tone Models or presets by simply dragging and dropping them into place. Custom folders for amp type, pedals, songs or sets are just some of the ways users can now quickly organize Tone Models to suit their needs and workflow.

Enhanced View Options
A new Card view offers a second way to display Tone Models and presets. Whether users want to see more Tone Models at once with the Card view or prefer to see more details via the List view, both options offer direct access to essential actions via new mouseover macros. TONEX 1.5 also lets users expand the relative size of the List or Card views within the application, and rescale the entire graphic interface to optimize the window’s use of space.

Refined Amp and Cab Section
The Amp and Cab section now offers drag-and-drop functionality for quickly trying out different Tone Models, which can be moved directly into the Amp or Cab cells to replace what’s there and try out new sounds. Optional “locks” keep either the amp or cab fixed so users may explore other tone possibilities, comparing how an amp sounds with different cabs or vice versa. TONEX 1.5 also adds bulk import for IRs and a new window to quickly integrate and manage all user and 3rd-party impulse responses within TONEX.

Deeper ToneNET Integration
TONEX 1.5 adds a dedicated section for Tone Partner and Signature Collections. These Premium collections can be easily accessed in the redesigned “Collection” section of TONEX with the ability to use the newly introduced filtering options of the sidebar. Users can sort collections by version, signature, or by a specific Tone Partner, with Quick filters to further refine the search. Play audio samples, try demos and make purchases, all within the “Collection” view.

New Filters for TONEX Pedal
Prepping for gigs is quicker now too thanks to the updated “Library” section that takes full advantage of the new filtering options to sort and organize Tone Models for transfer to TONEX Pedal. Users can apply any of the new filters or select from their user folders to move Tone Models directly to the pedal for their next show.

Bonus Premium Tone Models
To reward all, TONEX 1.5 also includes 15 new Premium Tone Models for paid versions of TONEX (SE, Full and MAX) featuring a wide selection of clean and high-gain tones, perfect for studio and stage. These Tone Models are based on sought-after amps from IK’s vault such as a Bogner Shiva, Hiwatt DR103, Orange OR120, ENGL Powerball and more.

Pricing and Availability
TONEX 1.5 is a free update available via the IK Product Manager for all new and existing users of TONEX including the free version, TONEX CS. Owners of any paid version of TONEX (SE, Full, MAX) will also receive 15 new Premium Tone Models in a variety of styles by clicking “Restore Purchases” within the updated app.

Avantone CLA-10A - Featured

Avantone Pro proudly announces repeat return of ‘white cone’ classic studio reference monitor as active CLA-10A Limited Edition

Avantone LogoSCOTCHTOWN, NY, USA: having closely collaborated with GRAMMY® Award-winning mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge to previously introduce its full-range, two-way passive CLA-10 as an accurate recreation of an iconic studio monitoring mainstay, subsequently followed by its active CLA-10A counterpart, affordable high-quality audio products producer Avantone Pro is proud to announce a repeat return of the ‘white cone’ classic studio reference monitor in question as its active CLA-10A Limited Edition — enabling delivery of that revered reference tone exactly as before but presented in an attractive North American black walnut veneer that looks as classic as it sounds — as of December 13…

History has it that a certain iconic studio mainstay — much loved in the music industry among pop and rock recording engineers to this day as a valuable mixing tool with which to reveal shortcomings in recordings — is a passive affair, as reflected in Avantone Pro’s CLA-10 as an accurate recreation. As alluded to by an appellation (partly) shared with the CLA-10’s active CLA-10A counterpart subsequently released to equally widespread critical acclaim, no external power amp is required when working with the CLA-10A Limited Edition, however — unlike yesteryear’s studio reference ‘white cone’ classic. Clearly, improving on perfection without altering the revered reference tone that those recording engineers expect could well be considered beyond the bounds of possibility — at least to outsiders. On the face of it, then, Avantone Pro’s CLA-10A Limited Edition enables delivery of that revered reference tone exactly as before but presents it in an attractive North American black walnut veneer that looks as classic as it sounds — achieving the unachievable by changing the finish, in other words!

Avantone CLA-10A - FRONT

Why the CLA-10A Limited Edition sounds the way it does is a little more complicated, understandably. Ultimately, the supply of aftermarket components became increasingly expensive with reduced availability after the ‘white cone’ classic studio reference monitor was discontinued, which is why Avantone Pro created a near-exact recreation of the original drivers. Deploying their global resources and decade-long experience in driver construction, the affordable high-quality audio products producer succeeded in faithfully reproducing the components concerned, while updating the materials involved to comply with modern environmental standards.

Saying that, though, the AV10-MHF 3.5 cm soft dome tweeter used in the CLA-10A Limited Edition design went through a difficult engineering process to get the exact phenolic resin doping to match the original performance curve, while the accompanying AV10-MLF 18 cm cone woofer uses custom-tooled mechanical parts that mirror the original. Also, Avantone Pro worked closely with one of the original vendors of the original cone to get the exact same stiffness and weight, but upgraded the production process to create machine-pressed cones. Consequently, the CLA-10 marked the first time that a white cone-style speaker was made in matched sonic pairs, an achievement that clearly continued with the introduction of the active CLA-10A and, now, the CLA-10A Limited Edition, effectively representing a repeat return of the ‘white cone’ classic studio reference monitor in and of itself.

Avantone CLA-10A - REAR

One of the most common questions asked about Avantone Pro’s accurate recreation of an iconic studio monitoring mainstay concerns which version of the originals they are based on, to which the answer is: all of them! The CLA-10A Limited Edition has a VTPC (Variable Tissue Paper Control) located on its rear panel, allowing users to simulate the high-frequency damping trick employed by pop and rock recording engineers back in the day — namely, covering the tweeters with tissue paper! Put it this way: with VTPC, CLA-10A Limited Edition users can simulate anything from the vertical ‘M’ model to the horizontal ‘Studio’ model, as well as everything in between. No need to worry about the best tissue paper to use since VTPC has effectively settled that debate once and for all — surely saving money on tissue paper purchasing in the process of doing so!

Staying traditional with a linear power supply implementing a massive, old-school toroidal transformer in order to maintain that still-sought-after legacy sound, the CLA-10A Limited Edition also uses a monolithic Class AB amplifier. At low power, THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is a phenomenal 0.005%; at rated load, it is 0.1%, yielding excellent performance compared to Class D amps. A rock-solid 240W total RMS full-range — 60-20,000Hz (accessible musical range) — two-way stereo pair (120W per speaker) system is the result of Avantone Pro’s design choices made in close collaboration with GRAMMY® Award-winning mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge (to whom the CLA-10A Limited Edition and its elder siblings not only owe their shared ‘initials’ but also their very existence). End result? It is fair to say that the CLA-10A Limited Edition design most definitely looks as classic as it sounds!

The CLA-10A Limited Edition is available at Avantone Pro’s US Dealers (https://www.avantonepro.com/en/dealers) with a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) of $999.00 USD per pair. (SSP — System Sell Price — in the European Union is €1,332.00 EUR per pair, including VAT (Value Added Tax), with international dealers listed by country here: https://www.avantonepro.com/en/international-dealers)

About Avantone Pro (www.avantonepro.com)
As a producer of affordable high-quality studio monitors, reference headphones, microphones, and accessories, Avantone Pro is a different kind of audio company — a creative vehicle, in effect, enabling its core team to bring to market the things viewed as missing in the industry. Indeed, this could be anything as simple as meeting a particular price point to give excellent quality for reasonable pricing to a product that simply does not exist until built by that team. Far from using the shotgun approach to creating a product line, however, each and every product produced has passion and purpose driving it forward. Regardless of whether attracting a two- or four-figure price tag, attention to design is consistent throughout all Avantone Pro products. Performance comes first, of course, but a great deal of design time is spent creating visually attractive products. Put it this way: the company collectively enjoys classic, timeless designs itself; it is convinced, therefore, that others feel the same way! With its microphones and monitors used in studios around the world — whether within home-based project setups or world-renowned multi-million-dollar facilities, Avantone Pro is sensitive to the real-world operating budgets of bigger and smaller studios alike but also appreciates struggling songwriters/artists who are passionate about creating great music yet must adhere to budget limitations based on common sense spending. Since it strives to offer products that anyone would be proud to own and have long-term use of in the quest for creating great music, even those on a budget can comfortably access Avantone Pro’s world-class sound.

Wide Blue Sound Uninstaller - Featured

Wide Blue Sound announces availability of v1.1 update to AUDIO PLUGIN UNINSTALLER plug-in as easiest way to uninstall audio plug-ins on Mac

Wide Blue Sound Silencer - LOGOLOS ANGELES, CA, USA: following a well-received recent soft-launch, inspiring, unique, and filler-free music tools creator Wide Blue Sound is proud to announce availability of the v1.1 update to its self-explanatory AUDIO PLUGIN UNINSTALLER plug-in — praised upon its initial availability as the easiest way to uninstall audio plug-ins on a Mac by acting as a one-click solution to effortless plug-in management, now with several significant new features to its notable name making it an even more attractive proposition to Mac-based music-makers than ever — as of December 1…

It is an unfortunate fact of modern-day music technology that audio plug-ins install files all over computers, and each developer has a different philosophy about where their files should go. Fortunately for Mac-based music-makers, there is now a one-click solution to effortless plug-in management — namely, AUDIO PLUGIN INSTALLER from Wide Blue Sound.

Wide Blue Sound Uninstaller - Banner

Simply put, two modes of operation make using AUDIO PLUGIN INSTALLER easy: entirely new to the v1.1 update, Uninstallers mode works by reading the original installation receipts and reversing the process, making sure not to uninstall files used by other plug-ins; if a plug-in does not appear then it does not have a normal receipt — in which case it is still possible to remove it using All Plugins mode, which can delete any plug-in.

Additionally, All Plugins mode includes Filter by Plugin Format, a new drop-down menu that filters by a specific format, allowing users to easily remove the formats they no longer use, or simply monitor how much hard drive space they are using, while Reveal in Finder — accessed by right-clicking on a plug-in — makes it easy to manually quarantine a plug-in while troubleshooting.

Why would anyone want to do what it is that AUDIO PLUGIN UNINSTALLER does so well? Well, it is, for example, easy to try demos, discovering amazing audio plug-ins safe in the knowledge that they will not end up cluttering a hard drive since they can just as easily be removed, while troublesome plug-ins that are crashing a session or not showing up at all can also be removed in one click. Cleaning up that all-important plug-in list need no longer be a head-spinning exercise involving scrolling down a long list of plug-ins, but rather removing old stuff that is no longer needed to quickly create a zen-like space to create. Easily exploring installation packages to find presets, preferences, and other hidden files for any plug-in is another excellent example of AUDIO PLUGIN UNINSTALLER usage.

Unplug and play perhaps best describes AUDIO PLUGIN UNINSTALLER. After all, anyone bringing modern-day music technology into play instinctively knows that peaceful playing is key to creativity, so surely there is no reason not to have access to this plug-in as far as any Mac-based music-maker is concerned.

AUDIO PLUGIN UNINSTALLER is a standalone app that works with all audio plug-in formats — including AAX, AU, CLAP, RTAS, VST, and VST3 — and is currently available to download for free from the Wide Blue Sound website, which also includes more in-depth information, here: https://www.widebluesound.com/audio-plugin-uninstaller/

About Wide Blue Sound (www.widebluesound.com)
Wide Blue Sound operates on the ideology that music tools should be fun, inspiring, and absolutely filler-free. Founded in 2015 by producer Nathan Rightnour and composer Jeff Rona, it launched with ORBIT, an aptly-named novel and high-end music software synthesizer for video game composers and producers. Praised by publications worldwide for making “a remarkable splash on the scene,” its creators quickly became a force to be reckoned with for film and television composition, record production, and video game music as ORBIT and its ECLIPSE followup were lauded both for their bold, no-nonsense approach to synth design and ability to create stunning cinematic pulses and atmospheric textures.2020 saw the company ramping up in its development with the release of its motion-evolving ELYSIUM — an inspiring KONTAKT plug-in instrument instantiated as a two-layer synth for creating music infused with tonal rhythms, movement, and unrivalled playability, as well as bringing onboard several development teams to release more of Nathan’s original UX (User Experience) design-led software for music producers and composers that are now seeing the light of day, duly living up to his well-meaning motto: Inspiration you can hear. Made with love in California.

Analogue Solutions announces availability of Ample as ANALOGUE 3 VCO PATCH PIN SYNTHESISER blending best of past and present products

Analogue Solutions - LOGOSHATTERFORD, UK: after a successful soft-launch at SynthFest 2023 in Sheffield, UK on October 7, British boutique electronic instruments innovator Analogue Solutions is proud to announce availability of Ample to a wider audience as a desktop-friendly ANALOGUE 3 VCO PATCH PIN SYNTHESISER — beautifully blending the best elements of several of its past and present products to form a truly analogue modular system skilfully presented as a precision-engineered electronic musical instrument in a spacious (550mm x 262mm x 83mm) steel and aluminium case that also embraces ergonomic features such as VESA mount compliance, should desktop space be at a premium, all of which adds up to being a perfect fit for its appropriate appellation — as of November 29…

Analogue Solutions Ample - angled overhead

Ample adheres to Analogue Solutions’ tried-and-tested no-compromise construction formula, featuring a full rugged steel and aluminium case — no plastic mouldings here; high-quality metal potentiometers with smooth action, fully sealed against dust intrusion; high-qualityAnalogue Solutions AMPLE Logo knobs with spun aluminium caps; high-quality double-sided circuit boards; high-quality 16-bit DAC (Digital-to-Analogue Convertor) for stable MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) to CV (Control Voltage) conversion; stable analogue oscillators; gold-plated touch plates; plus true retro analogue voice and modulation circuits to give an authentic retro sound. Since Analogue Solutions’ innovative instruments are applauded for proudly possessing a truly vintage sound — synthesisers featuring fully-analogue audio paths with analogue LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) and EGs (Envelope Generators), in other words, Ample is in good company as an ANALOGUE 3 VCO PATCH PIN SYNTHESISER.

But by beautifully blending the best elements of several past and present products — namely, the sound elements of Fusebox fabricated originally as an aptly-named, three-VCO (Voltage-Controlled Oscillator) true analogue monophonic synthesiser that favourably fuses the company’s characterful vintage sound with an advanced choice of modulation and melodic possibilities in a beautifully-built box; the jack points introduced in the long-discontinued line of Concussor modular synth drum modules (themselves dating back to the time when Analogue Solutions was the third company to start producing Eurorack format-compatible modules, magical as that might sound in today’s ever-expanding era of thousands of Eurorack modules being produced by hundreds — if not thousands — of developers, both bigger and smaller); the patch pin matrix introduced in the long-lasting Vostok semi-modular synthesiser series (that knowingly nodded and winked at its Russian ‘roots’ from a visual standpoint); the lo-fi echo featured in Dr Strangelove as a small and affordable desktop signal processor (that ushered in Analogue Solutions’ so-called synthBlocks series); and last, but by no means least, the sequencer and CV touch plates introduced in Generator as a highly-versatile multi-channel analogue step sequencer — to form a truly analogue modular system skilfully presented as a precision-engineered electronic musical instrument is what really makes Ample stand out amongst Analogue Solutions’ present-day products.

Analogue Solutions Ample Tabletop

Put it this way: while Ample shares all of those features from some of Analogue Solutions’ ‘greatest hits’, it still has a sound of its own thanks to the circuits on offer: OSCILLATING is handled by three analogue VCOs (Voltage-Controlled Oscillators), each providing a wealth of features and modulation choices, with the VCO3/LFO 1 legend visually highlighting that the third oscillator can easily be utilised as an LFO (with saw, square, and triangle wave modulation signals), while LFO2/SYNC has a triangle wave output to total two LFOs; the LP VCF (Voltage-Controlled Filter) section is anchored around a four-pole 24dB-per-octave low-pass filter; the VCA (Voltage-Controlled Amplifier) can be set to THRU so it is always ‘open’ (allowing Ample to be used as an effect processor); the two envelope generators — EG 1 and EG 2 — each offer full control over ATTACK, DECAY, SUSTAIN, and RELEASE; extensive modulation routing choices allow for a wide range of resultant sounds extending into percussion and ‘modular’ territory, further extended by patching with the jack sockets and pin matrix; MIDI is intentionally kept simple so users can concentrate on creating new sounds and making music, with all-important control over filter cutoff available via MIDI Velocity; patchable CV control sockets allow the synth in question to effectively be rewired to make new sounds, as well as easily patched together with external Eurorack and other modular systems; the PATTERNATOR is a vintage-style 16-step sequencer; the six touch plates each output a set voltage, so can be used to pitch notes or as modulation signals — either way, they are truly inspirational in action; the pin matrix represents a neat (and flexible) way to patch the synth; and the ECHO section provides easy access to adding a little lo-fi echo or delay.

Audio applications abound when working with Ample as a synthesiser — excelling at analogue sound effects, as well as fat basses, screaming leads, and all manner of other crazy sounds associated with analogue synthesis; an effect processor — perfect for feeding external sounds through the onboard analogue filter and ECHO sections via external audio inputs; a drum synthesiser — suited to producing electronic percussion, including cymbal, hi-hat, kick, and snare sounds; and as a modular synthesiser — partially pre-patched, but with such a wide range of modulation routing possibilities that it is almost as versatile as a full-blown modular system, and capable of producing the same types of sounds but dispensing with telephone exchange-like cabling confusion in favour of making space-saving connections with removable coloured pins, yet still providing a flexible selection of patch sockets so it can quickly be re-patched into itself or to/from external Eurorack and other modular systems.

It is also worth noting in conclusion that while Ample can be used with an external MIDI keyboard or DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), or an external CV keyboard or analogue sequencer, it is equally at home being worked with on its own using its internal step sequencer or pitch played via its six-touch plate ‘keyboard’. Whatever way anyone chooses to work with Ample, it could conceivably be argued that it is the best desktop synth of all — Analogue Solutions-wise or otherwise!

Limited quantities of Ample are already available to purchase directly from Analogue Solutions for £1,999.00 GBP (excluding tax/VAT) via its dedicated webpage (https://www.analoguesolutions.com/ample) while stock will soon be arriving at selected dealers (https://www.analoguesolutions.com/dealers).

About Analogue Solutions (www.analoguesolutions.com)
Analogue Solutions is a UK-based boutique electronic instruments innovator that specialises in true analogue synthesisers, sequencers, and Eurorack modules. More than 25 years experience in the industry means that it was right there at the start of the Eurorack revolution — the third company to start producing modules, in fact. Furthermore, Analogue Solutions products are all hand built in England — many being tested by founder Tom Carpenter himself, who has hands-on involvement in all aspects of the company. Characterful to boot, Analogue Solutions’ innovative instruments are applauded for proudly possessing a truly vintage sound — synthesisers featuring fully-analogue audio paths with analogue LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) and EGs (Envelope Generators) are the order of the day here. Having no memories means that nothing is being made to sound sterile by CPU (Central Processing Unit) control; conversely, turning a knob directly changes the voltage or current in an actual synth circuit to audible affect. As implied by name, Analogue Solutions consistently constitutes proof of Tom Carpenter’s genuine passion for analogue synths, drawing upon his years of owning and using vintage analogue synths and drum machines that he still uses in his own music productions… alongside Analogue Solutions products, predictably. Put it this way: with its present-day music electronics for electronic musicians mantra ringing true as always, Analogue Solutions has certainly come a long way with its boutique electronic instrument innovations!

Both these instruments are based on Steinberg’s acclaimed FM Lab instrument and are available within Cubasis as separate in-app purchases.

“The new HALion-powered instruments in Cubasis add boundless possibilities for musical expression. More than a thousand new presets in the HALion Sonic Selection, and the incredible Neo FM and FM Classics packs, allow you to create professional-sounding productions using just your tablet or phone, as we continue our drive to make Cubasis the best mobile digital audio workstation available,” says Cubasis Marketing Manager Lars Slowak.

Dorico for iPad 5.1 includes new HALion-powered General MIDI-compatible sounds for free, and with an optional in-app purchase of a monthly or annual subscription, or a one-off Lifetime Unlock, users can add the sounds of Iconica Sketch, a complete orchestra with 34 different instruments and 140 articulations, optimized for iPad.

“Being able to bring the same great-sounding orchestral sounds to Dorico for iPad that users can enjoy in Dorico for macOS and Windows is a huge step forwards,” says Dorico Product Marketing Manager Daniel Spreadbury. “These new sounds provide much greater expressive possibilities and will allow composers and arrangers to enjoy writing music on their iPads more than ever.”
