As a resident producer at Bohus Sound Recording in Kungälv, Sweden, boasting a long and prestigious history intrinsically linked to the Swedish recording industry, namesake Lindell Audio founder Tobias Lindell knows only too well what recording equipment works
best, boutique or otherwise. It is hardly surprising, therefore, that the most classic and respected sounds of dynamic processors live on in Lindell Audio’s aptly-named LiN76, proudly designed in Sweden to recreate timbres and nuances of ’76-style FET compressors — backed by the Vintage Limiting Amplifier wording boldly blazoned across its no-nonsense front and back panels. Put it this way: with LiN76, it is even possible to replicate the infamous ‘all-button mode’ made famous by British recording engineers throughout the Seventies, reproducing a sound that is still popular today.
This ‘secret mode’ effectively changes the RATIO to roughly 20:1 and also changes the bias of the circuit as well as the way that the knobs interact with each other. As a result, the LiN76 becomes much more aggressive, with its reaction knee becoming more like a plateau than a gentle curve with a more aggressive dirty tone that sounds incredible on aggressive drums. In contrast, the ATTACK becomes very punchy with a gooey ‘sucking’ sound on the RELEASE. Regular settings, however, are: ATTACK — continuously variable 20 μs to 800 μs; RELEASE — 50 ms to 1200 ms; and RATIO — 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, and 20:1 (and any combination thereof).
Vintage-vibe dynamics processing continues with a front panel-dominating VU (volume unit) meter, metering the amount of gain reduction applied with units selected by the chosen METER mode: +4 — meters output level at 0 with +4dB output; +8 — meters output level at 0 with +8dB output; Off is self-explanatory; and GR allows for meter calibration (by turning the back panel-positioned METER CALIBRATION screw until the needle rests at 0, having ensured that no RATIO buttons are selected beforehand).
Back panel-positioned OUTPUT and INPUT are both balanced line-level TRS (Tip, Ring, and Sleeve), rounding out an easy-to-use, solidly-built 19-inch rack-mounting (2U) package — powered by an AC (alternating current) 12V 5A switching supply, adaptor included — that weighs in at 8kg, duly delivering instant vintage-vibe dynamics processing for today’s demanding recording studios.

In his own words: “To my ear, tape introduces a deep, organic version of chaos. It brings a level of randomization in both subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Pitch (tape speed), filtering, and level are all subject to constant variability. It occurs to the brain as a hazing effect when used lightly, and disorienting when intensified. As anyone working in modern-day music production will likely testify, a perfect vocal track is the key element of almost every song — which is where SounDevice Digital’s TrapTune comes into play as the perfect fit for the trap sub-genre of hip-hop or, indeed, any scenario where hard-tuning is needed. Needless to say, TrapTune could conceivably be the only tool needed to achieve that perfect vocal track. That said, TrapTune is not just an automatic tuner with a unique character — albeit one that can capably deliver everything from subtle pitch correction to the likes of an artificial ‘Cher effect’ (exemplified by the American singer/actress’ global chart-topper ‘I Believe’ back in 1998 on account of its pioneering use of software audio processing) but can be combined with a second voice harmony, doubler, and special effects section to creatively craft a vocal track that really stands out from the sound of the (plug-in) crowd.
Clearly, TrapTune is especially well suited to genres where hard-tuning is required — think trap, hip-hop, EDM (Electronic Dance Music), R&B, contemporary pop, and more, but, of course, creativity should know no bounds. After all, any genre can conceivably benefit from TrapTune’s unique character.
The key to TrapTune’s creative success is its tune-in section; there, the TRAP TUNE INTENSITY (%) knob may well be the only control anyone turns to. Tune-in controls the intensity and speed of natural tuning and intensity of hard tuning as an effect, while also working with formants (FORMANT SHIFT), voice transposing (TRANSPOSE), and key of the tuning.
The second voice section effectively adds another voice singing in unison with the vocal track being processed by TrapTune. It is possible to TRANSPOSE that additional voice by semitones and switch OCTAVES to lower (deeper) or higher if required while hitting the STEREO VOICE switch activates TrapTune’s doubler effect. Exactly as might be expected, the vocal immediately gets bigger-, wider-, and stronger-sounding as a result of doing so.
SounDevice Digital’s TrapTune also includes a distortion section, specially tuned for vocals; controlled by the DRIVE (%) and DRY/WET (%) knobs therein, this can provide users with a wide variety of distortion effects, ranging from warm saturation right through to total mayhem!
Musically, TrapTune would be incomplete without its included reverb and delay sections, so users are able to easily access a beautiful-sounding plate reverb tuned for vocals with as few controls as possible, as well as a modeled tape delay with FEEDBACK (%) and time (LENGTH) controls.

OBITUARY — BILLY WOODMAN (1946-2022)
ASTON DOWN, GLOUCESTERSHIRE, UK — AUGUST 10, 2022: British loudspeaker drive unit and complete sound reproduction system manufacturer ATC Loudspeaker Technology is intensely saddened to announce the death of owner and founder Billy Woodman.
Billy Woodman passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 21, 2022, aged 76. His principles, philosophies, and absolute commitment to engineering excellence spanned almost five decades, creating the bedrock upon which ATC is built.
Under his leadership and guiding hand, ATC has continued to grow and succeed as a family business with Will Woodman, his son, as Managing Director supported by fellow Director and lifelong friend Bob Polley.
Billy was an extraordinary man — not only gifted as an engineer, but also as a jazz pianist and restorer of vintage cars. As a true gentleman, Billy led his life with courage, kindness, and generosity, and he leaves a remarkable and inspirational legacy.
His loss is profoundly felt by his family, friends, and the entire ATC family that he created.

Nu-Tron III is based on Musitronics Mu-Tron® III Automatic Wah from 1972. It became famous through its use along with keyboards. Filters allowed for low-pass, bandpass, and high-pass filter response, which can be triggered from low to high frequency or vice versa. It’s a great way to expand your sound palette in AmpliTube.

Two composers will alternate to perform nine themes from nine famous movies, each using the libraries in the Summer Sale exclusive bundles. Viewers are invited to guess the movie score to win prizes related to the Summer Sale, as well as opportunities to ask questions for the composers. The best entries will also be shared on Spitfire Audio’s Instagram stories.
