New advanced Edit panel
Syntronik 2 adds a new Edit panel with many new user-requested features. There are per-oscillator DRIFT controls, extended envelopes, and LFOs along with a programmable modulation matrix. Plus a new Wave Set Browser that lets users choose the sound for each of up to 4 oscillators and 2 sub oscillators per preset for a new level of sound design.

DRIFT™ technology
IK’s DRIFT technology varies the phase, color, and pitch of the sampled oscillators to keep them moving just like the real analog oscillators do. Much more than simple detuning or even multiple-source modulation, DRIFT emulates the way real analog circuits behave over time. The result is the unmistakable sound of analog that is the soul of any classic synthesizer sound.

An arsenal of effects
Syntronik 2 comes with 71 exciting effects derived from IK’s popular T-RackS 5 mix and mastering suite, MixBox processors, and AmpliTube 5 guitar workstation. Up to 5 effects can be simultaneously inserted on every instrument via a “lunchbox-style” interface, which offers immediate visualization and editing of every parameter from within a single, convenient location.

Dynamic arpeggiators
The 4 synthesizer parts in Syntronik 2 feature a powerful note and chord arpeggiator, each with its own assignable range and settings as well as the ability to store them for instant recall. Along with a new step sequencer, this allows users to build complex rhythmic textures and sequences with extreme ease and inspiring effectiveness.

An advanced browser offers fast and convenient navigation of Syntronik 2’s vast library of presets to let users find the right sounds in an instant. Beautiful new interface and improved workflow

FabFilter has redesigned Volcano 3 from the ground up to make it more intuitive and immediate, while at the same time introducing a wealth of new features, and dramatically improving visualization of audio and modulation signals. The new filter display speeds up workflow with the selection of multiple filters at once and presents a unified response curve with stereo separation, as well as a high-resolution spectrum display. Modulation signals are now visualized at both sources and targets with animated collars, while the source flow area gives an eye-catching overview of all active modulations, and floating slot panels enable collective balancing of all sources modulating the currently selected control. The beating heart of Volcano is, of course, its bank of four analog-modeled filters. Expanding on the already- established High-, Low-, and Band-Pass types, Volcano 3 more than doubles the options with the addition of vintage-style Bell, High/Low Shelf, Notch, and All-Pass modes. Just like the original trio, these are all highly non-linear for a palpably analog sound and can be switched through an array of sonic colorations using Volcano’s transformative Style settings. Each filter also now incorporates its own variable saturation circuit, further increasing the character-shaping potential, along with a 6 dB/octave slope option, and independent volume and pan controls bring a whole new level of depth to parallel routing setups.

As a sample library like no other, MABE FRATTI & CONCEPCIóN HUERTA – ESTáTICA expands upon its name-checked creators’ EP of theESTATICA LOGO same name with a range of inbuilt sound-sculpting controls — namely, expression, dynamics (processed signal), REVERB, ATTACK, RELEASE, CHORUS, FLANGER, and PHASER — combining to offer a dynamic sonic palette providing an exciting range of possibilities within a single patch. Picking up, briefly, on that dynamics slider, since it controls an inbuilt processed signal, curated by the artists themselves, starting with the dry signal and bringing in pre-programmed effects unique to each individual preset, users can quickly make MABE FRATTI & CONCEPCIóN HUERTA – ESTáTICA sound like they want it to.

There are 32 presets, split into four sections: Cello (13) — created from Mabe Fratti’s wide range of distinctively haunting cello techniques, ranging from soft bowing to aggressive-sounding bowed effects and bending strings, skilfully capturing the raw character of the instrument itself, while also pushing it to its limits, awash in a sea of reverb and distortion to achieve alien-like drones, as well as tones reminiscent of an electric guitar; Tape (11) — taking in all kinds of atmospheric tape processing from Concepción Huerta, such as hissing and old radio signal-like sounds, with room for further experimentation; Vocals (4) — comprising organic vocal performances and granular, processed vocal-based pads, all of which lend themselves well to composers looking to add a human touch to their compositions to achieve sounds that other instruments cannot quite capture; and Warps (4) — atmospheric and orchestral-based offerings, providing extra layers to add more depth and texture to anyone’s compositions.

ESTATICA - Artists 2

Creativity far from stops there, thanks to the included seven bespoke IR (Impulse Response) reverbs, ranging from Kiln to Church Balcony, blending perfectly with the already stunning sound of those textures from the boundary-pushing experimentalists that are their name-checked creators, while velocity-sensitivity for tone variance is an absolute given.

Getting those tones into MABE FRATTI & CONCEPCIóN HUERTA – ESTáTICA was far from as easy as playing with the end results. Rethinking approaches to cello, voice, and effects, the sounds showcase Mabe Fratti and Concepción Huerta’s bespoke DIY instrumentation, including a range of classic analog synths, such as Roland’s highly-prized early-Eighties-vintage JUNO-60 and JUNO-106 (programmable polysynths), as well as the cellist’s self-designed pedalboard featuring a late-Sixties-vintage Ace Tone Acetone Fuzz Master FM-2 (octave fuzz) and late-Seventies-vintage ProCo Big Box RAT V1 (distortion), alongside more modern-day stompboxes, such as an Eventide Space (reverb), Boss OC-3 Super Octave (octaver), and Line6 DL4 (programmable delay and loop sampler). Creativity continued courtesy of Concepción Huerta’s chain of pedals and musical machinery both old(er) and new(er), including her beloved TASCAM Portastudio — the first four-track recorder based on a standard compact audio cassette tape, multiple cassette tape players, a custom-made fuzz pedal, Roland SP-404 (sampling workstation), Moog MoogerFooger MF-102 (ring modulator), and Moog Slim Phatty (analog monosynth).

Saying that, then, when the boundary-pushing experimentalists in question began to create together, they wanted to express the overwhelming sensations that the news of the world was resonating in their minds and bodies, and how small it made them feel. MABE FRATTI & CONCEPCIóN HUERTA – ESTáTICA effectively reflects that notion of feeling overwhelmed and confused in the wake of a global standstill. Says Mabe Fratti: “The sounds and music we’ve created reflect the dichotomy of both meanings of the word ‘estática’ — the charge of electricity inside us, combined with the feeling of stasis and immobility that comes from being overwhelmed. That feeling when you can’t do anything and are totally stunned. A static electric signal, frozen in time.”

The resulting MABE FRATTI & CONCEPCIóN HUERTA – ESTáTICA sample library itself is far from frozen in time, though, but rather expands on the namesake EP’s sonic experimentation with its range of inbuilt sound-sculpting controls, offering a dynamic sonic palette with an exciting range of possibilities available to anyone wishing to take a leaf out of the boundary-pushing experimentalists’ highly visceral, abstract textural book — or simply use it to make music of their own, not necessarily dwelling on the turbulent times we collectively found ourselves living through. After all, each of the highly evocative contrasting and characterful sounds therein are ready to breathe new life into compositions and spark ideas for new ones.

Multi-band madness abounds as MultiBender’s delay processing is split into three separate color-coded modules linked to the (mostly) standard — PRE DELAY (sets a pre-delay between 0 and 200 ms), TIME (adjustable in bars — S (straight), D (dotted), and T (triplets) can be selected above), FEEDBACK (sets the feedback of the main delay), HAAS (creates a stereo — Haas — effect), and MIX (acts as a common mix control for the whole plugin, allowing for parallel usage) —MULTIBENDER LOGO controls located towards the top of the GUI (Graphical User Interface)… ‘mostly’ meaning that it is well worth noting here, however, that the Haas effect — also known as the precedence effect or law of the first wavefront — is a binaural psychoacoustic phenomenon discovered by Dr. Helmut Haas in 1949, whereby when a sound is followed by another sound separated by a sufficiently short time delay, listeners perceive a single auditory event whose spatial location is dominated by the location of the first-arriving sound. But back in the wonderful world of MultiBender, those three separate modules’ controls can all be adjusted independently by simply dragging the crossover points in the waveform display to speedily set up the frequency ranges of the three bands, then choose a delay TIME (including dotted and triplet feel), FEEDBACK level, and GAIN adjustment, allowing for a short delay for the low end and longer ones for mids and highs to effectively send them bouncing around the room. Readily available are ‘on’ and ‘off’ buttons — click- and pop-free bypass, in other words — which enable users to disable any unwanted processing in an instant, if wishing to keep their bassline tight or the midrange clean, for instance.

It is fair to say that the standard delays for each of those three bands already sound complex and expansive, but users can push the effect to the limit with Saturation, Bitcrush, and Detune effects that are also available for each band (hidden under the selection triangle), running completely independently of each other. Apply as much or as little of each process as needed to create different kinds of audio effect — think sparkling highs with saturated harmonics in the upper-frequency range, detuned midrange delay for a wavering analog feel in the body of the sound, screaming bass line with bit-crushed low end… (almost) anything is possible!

As a tried and trusted technique for adding space and width to delay adventures, the main delay’s helpful HAAS control can create a subtle stereo effect by shifting the timing offset of the left or right channel — creative delay processing like no other continues unabated.

Some say looks are everything. Exactly what is happening to each of the three bands as the audio passes through the MultiBender plugin comes courtesy of that good-looking GUI’s central window’s three colored waveforms that clearly display the effect of each module’s processing for facilitating accurate monitoring and surgical shaping at every stage of the signal chain — clearly useful feedback for keeping tabs on transformations.

Made from 32 sets of piano sounds that have been time-stretched and transformed through reel-to-reel, cassette tapes, guitar pedals, along with some unconventional plugin chains.

PIANO SOUNDS
There are 24 different sets of piano sounds and 8 texture pads that can be loaded into 2 sides of the instrument. They have all been painstakingly re-recorded, re-amped and re-worked from the original Alt Piano recording sessions. They have been stretched and transformed through reel-to-reel, cassette tapes, and some of the world’s finest boutique guitar pedals. Some have been further manipulated with a string of unconventional plugin chains.
We also went back to the original piano and recorded some additional interesting sounds using wooden plectrums, drum sticks and palm-muted thumb plucks.

PIANO TEXTURES
The 8 texture pads have been made using the same re-recording techniques as the other sounds. The feeling of an analog synth, but with the soul of a piano. One of our favorites is called ‘Muddle’ which uses the highly revered, Fairfield Circuitry “Shallow Water” pedal and an Electro Harmonix Octave generator. We re-amped both left and right channels independently, constantly changing the controls of the pedals to give a truly original stereo sound.

We’ve developed a custom engine called Memories which generates an intelligent pattern of rhythms to accompany your playing. More character and complexity than an arpeggiator.
